FOLLOWUP: a great-grandson of Fermin Treviño contacted me on May 8, 2004, and confirmed that Fermin's parents were Ignacio Treviño and Ana Chapa.

He was the Original Grantee of Porcion 23 (Camargo) in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico in 1767.¹⁰¹² He was the Original Grantee of "San Juan" or "Chapeño" in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico in 1784.¹⁰¹⁰ The San Juan tract, now known as El Chapeño, contained 16½ sitios of land and extended about 6 leagues south from the Rio Grande River. The tract was situated between the Caja Pinta tract to the east and the San Vicente Chiquihuite (Longoreño) tract to the west. It is east of the present day city of Matamoros. Jose Miguel Chapa received Porcion 23 in Camargo on the south side of the Rio Grande, in what is now the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. Indications are that at some undetermined date he sold this tract to Jose Manuel de Chapa.

He was one of the 14 original founders of the "congregacion" named San Juan de los Esteros Hermosos about 20 miles upstream from the mouth of the Rio Grande River; the "congregacion" grew into the city known today as Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
