Joseph LONGORIA Garcia was born about 1691. He died before 1735 at the age of 44.26 The marriage investigation indicates that the parents of Rosa Longoria, Joseph Longoria and Maria Chapa, were both deceased by Jan. 8, 1735. Parents: Pedro LONGORIA Rodriguez and Augustina GARCIA.

Joseph Santiago LONGORIA1679,2750,2751 was the Original Grantee of Porcion 4 (Camargo) in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico in 1767.2752 Porcion 4 is located on the south side of the Rio Grande River, in what is now the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. He signed a will on 19 August 1778 in Camargo, Nuevo Santander, New Spain.2751 This was the first Last Will & Testament made by Joseph Santiago Longoria; he made it while gravely sick in bed. He named his wife as Ana Mancilla de Hinojosa and listed seven children. The children not named were Narcisa, who apparently had died before then, and Luis who was not born until 1782. Apparently, Joseph Santiago recovered from his illness and lived until at least 1794, when he made his second Last Will & Testament after an accident caused him to fear for his death. He was the Original Grantee of "San Vicente Chiquihuite" or "Longoreño in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico in 1784.2491 In 1774, about 7 years after they were granted porciones in Camargo, Santiago Longoria and his cousin Matias Longoria were among those Camargo residents who established ranches further downriver, past Reynosa, on the south side of the Rio Grande. They did these without having the proper authorizations, probably following the example of others who some 30 years prior had established ranches in the Camargo area in anticipation of a future settlement there. However, the lands where they established their ranches became part of a hacienda named La Sauteña owned by Antonio de Urizar, a businessman from Mexico City. The entire area from the Rio Grande on the north to San Fernando on the south and from Nuevo Leon and Reynosa on to the west to the Laguna Madre on the east had been granted to Urizar in an effort to accelerate its colonization. This led to a legal complaint filed by La Sauteña against the unauthorized occupants of "los terrenos de la costa", or the territories of the coast, as the lands were then known. The legal complaint was resolved in 1784, when Ignacio Anastasio de Ayala, acting as the authorized representative for the unauthorized settlers, negotiated the purchase of 113 sitios of land from La Sauteña. Santiago and Matias Longoria thus legalized their ownership of the lands they had settled. All their jointly owned land was placed under the name of Santiago, but the two established separate and distinct ranches on their respective tracts. Santiago named his ranch San Vicente Chiquihuite, which later became known as Longoreño; Matias named his ranch La Canasta. The fact that all the land was under the name of Santiago Longoria later led to a long legal dispute among the two men's heirs as to ownership of the land; however, details of how the dispute was resolved is unknown to me. The Longoreño tract was situated immediately to the east of the La Canasta tract, and extended for about 6 leagues south of the Rio Grande River. The La Canasta tract was situated immediately to the east of the San Juan de los Esteros tract (owned by Ignacio Anastasio de Ayala) where the present day city of Matamoros is located. Joseph signed a will on 27 March 1794 in Camargo, Nuevo Santander, New Spain.2753 This was the second Last Will & Testament of Joseph Santiago Longoria; he made it after an accident caused him to fear for his life. This time he names his wife as Ana Maria de Hinojosa and lists only six children instead of the seven children he listed in his first Last Will & Testament dated sixteen years earlier on August 10, 1778. The missing child is Juan Jose who had died in 1789 at the age of 14. He was born in Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon, New Spain. Joseph Santiago Longoria was an original settler of Camargo in 1750. He and his cousin Jose Matias Longoria served as expert appraisers when the Camargo porciones were laid out and distributed. Santiago Longoria was also one of the citizens chosen to represent His Majesty the King of Spain when the Reynosa porciones were laid out and distributed.
Santiago Longoria was the Original Grantee of Porcion 4 in Camargo (on the south side of the Rio Grande). Seabury mistakenly identifies him as a son of Pedro Longoria, the Original Grantee of Porcion 94, further indicating that there is a sale deed in the Archives of Camargo, whereby Santiago sold his interest to his brother Pedro Longoria. Seabury has obviously confused two different men by the name of Santiago Longoria. The Santiago who married Ana de Hinojosa was the Original Grantee of Porcion 4 but he could not have been a son of Pedro Longoria, the Original Grantee of Porcion 94. This Pedro did indeed have two sons named Santiago and Pedro, and it was this Santiago who sold his interest in Porcion 94 to his brother Pedro. Joseph Santiago Longoria, the Original Grantee of Porcion 4, was a first cousin of Pedro Longoria, the Original Grantee of Porcion 94.
Joseph Santiago Longoria was also one of the original settlers in 1774 in an area about 20 miles upstream from the mouth of the Rio Grande River and on its right bank (the south side). Official title to those lands were granted in 1784 and in 1793 the "congregacion" named San Juan de los Esteros Hermosos was established, so named because land for the community was donated by Ignacio Anastacio de Ayala, whose ranch was named San Juan de los Esteros. That "congregacion" grew into the city known today as Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The ranch Santiago founded near Matamoros is now known as Longoreño. Juan Santiago LONGORIA Flores was born about 1815 in Camargo, Nuevo Santander, New Spain. The 1860 Census showed his age to be 52 (could be 62), which would make his birth year 1808. However, Juan Longoria registered with the Mexican Consul in Brownsville on February 13, 1875, and that document lists his age as 60 years, which would make his birth year 1815. This would have been the year before he was baptized. I believe the registration document is more accurate than the 1860 Census when it comes to age. Thus, I am assuming he was born in 1815. He was baptized on 5 December 1816 in Camargo, Nuevo Santander, New Spain.2765 The baptism records of Camargo (in Ancestry.com) show his name to be Juan Santiago Longoria, that he was baptized on Dec. 5, 1816, and that the parents were Pedro Longoria and Nicolasa Flores. He died on 21 February 1892 at the age of 77 in La Grulla, Starr County, TX, USA. Juan was buried in La Grulla, Starr County, TX, USA.333 He is buried in the same vault as his son Eugenio Longoria, his mother Maria Nicolasa Flores, his wife Yrinea Villarreal Longoria and his daughter Yrinea Longoria Garcia. He was a Rancher in La Grulla, Starr County, TX, USA.
In 1891, Juan Longoria paid $500 to Octaviana Villarreal de Peña and her husband, Andres Peña, for her interests in 500 acres in "La Encantada" and "Encino del Pozo". Octaviana Villarreal was the sister of Juan's daughter-in-law, Maria Rita Villarreal.
Parents: Pedro Jose LONGORIA Villarreal and Maria Nicolasa FLORES.
Spouse: Yrinea VILLARREAL Garza. Yrinea VILLARREAL Garza and Juan Santiago LONGORIA Flores1228,2084,2664,2766,2767,2768 were married on 27 November 1833 in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.2769 This marriage date means that they might have had a child, Maria Sostenes, before they married, if Maria Sostenes was indeed born in 1832. However, there is some evidence (the Last Will and Testament of Maria Sostenes) that she was not born until 1834.
The timing of Juan's move across the river is very interesting. It was on March 2, 1836, that Texas declared its independence from Mexico. The Alamo fell on March 6, 1836, and Santa Anna was defeated in the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. With Texas now a republic, many "gringos" started forcing Mexican landowners of their lands and confiscating them as their own. To maintain possession of their lands, the Mexican citizens had to live on them and fight to keep them. I believe this is what prompted Juan Longoria to relocate his family from Camargo to the future La Grulla in 1836.
It is also very interesting to note that Juan Longoria lived under "five flags of Texas": the Spanish, Mexican, Republic of Texas, Confederate, and United States flags.
Upon their deaths in 1892, the estate of Juan Longoria and Yrinea Villarreal consisted of the following:
Children were: Maria Sostenes LONGORIA Villarreal, Eugenio LONGORIA Villarreal, Guadalupe LONGORIA Villarreal, Maria Antonia LONGORIA Villarreal, Barbara LONGORIA Villarreal, Maria Leonor LONGORIA Villarreal, Teofila LONGORIA Villarreal, Yrinea LONGORIA Villarreal, Ponciano LONGORIA Villarreal, Jose Maria LONGORIA Villarreal.
