The 1880 Census gives his age as 27, indicating he was born after June 7, 1852 and before June 7, 1853. His grave marker shows his birth year as 1855. His death certificate indicated he was 61 years old, indicating he was born after June 25, 1852 and before June 25, 1853. A baptismal index for shows he was baptized in 1853. All things considered, I have concluded his grave marker is incorrect and that he was born between June 25, 1852 and August 1852. He died on 25 June 1914 at the age of 61 in Santa Rita Ranch, Brooks County, TX, USA. He was buried in Santa Rita cemetery, Brooks County, TX, USA. Ponciano was a Rancher in Santa Rita Ranch, Brooks County, TX, USA.
Ponciano Longoria was born about 1852 and thus was probably the first "American" born ancestor from the Longoria branch. He was also a true land baron, purchasing many tracts of land starting in 1884. He established his first ranch at "La Blanca". Ponciano purchased many of his relatives' interests in the "Encantada" and "Encino del Poso" grants and combined them with his wife's and his own inheritance to form the Santa Rita ranch in Brooks County. He was a rancher in both La Grulla and in La Encantada.

My father, Raul Longoria, recalls hearing stories about Ponciano's stubbornness. He recalled one story about a time when Ponciano was standing in a pasture talking to two other men. One of the men, Celso Villarreal, noticed that Ponciano was standing on a hill of fire ants and told Ponciano that he should move to avoid being bit. Ponciano, in his stubbornness, responded that the fire ants could not harm him and he continued standing on the ant hill while resuming the conversation. Though the ants bit, he refused to acknowledge that they were there or that they even bothered him.

Ponciano suffered an apparent heart attack while holding his two-year old grandson, Raul Longoria, in his lap. He died soon thereafter.

1894 - paid $28.50 in Mexican coin to his cousin Viviana Longoria de Solis for all of her
interests in Porcion 94, which she inherited from her father Eugenio Longoria.
1897 - paid $562.50 in Mexican coin to Jose Maria Longoria, Maria Sostenes Longoria,
Guadalupe Longoria, Roman Ramirez, Barbara Longoria, and Leonor Longoria
for their interests to 562.5 acres in "Encino del Pozo" and "La Encantada".
With this purchase, Ponciano bought out the interests of six of his brothers and
sisters to the lands they had inherited from their parents, Juan Longoria and Yrinea
Villarreal de Longoria.
1898 - paid $600 in U.S.A. currency to Transito Villarreal for his interests to 600 acres
in "Encino del Pozo". This was part of Transito's inheritance from his parents,

In high school, he played tennis and ran track, but his real love was playing football. He was the quarterback of the Mission Eagles in the early 40s and later became an avid golfer.

After graduating from high school, Ramiro joined the Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. Upon returning from the war, Ramiro used the GI Bill to attend college and graduated from Gradwall School of Medical Technology in St. Louis, Missouri. He later received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Pan American University.

Ramiro started working at a very young age, first shining shoes on the city streets of Mission, Texas, and later working as a golf caddie at the city golf course, where he learned to love the game of golf.

After graduation from laboratory technology school, he worked at a hospital in Sulfur, Oklahoma, where he met and married Johnelle Calame, who was a registered nurse. They moved back to the Valley, and Ramiro spent the majority of his career working at the Serafy Lab and Valley Regional Hospital in Brownsville, Texas. He also spent time as the director of the state lab in San Benito, Texas. Parents: Eutimio LONGORIA Garcia and Genoveva ANZALDUA.

He served as State Senator until 1981 when he was elected to the State District Court in Hidalgo County; he served as District Judge for 13 years until his retirement in 1994.
